I can't remember a time when cooking and baking wasn't a part of my life. I grew up with wonderful cooks and - better yet - a well-stocked kitchen and the freedom to create anything I wanted. So, with cookbook in hand from a very early age, I learned through trial and error how to satisfy my yen to produce edible and beautiful creations.

Life, education, and work took me in a different direction. My day job focused on the legal field which led me to a career in human resources. I coached employees through difficult situations, helped management plan strategically, and contributed to the bottom line of companies by mentoring all levels of professionals. Eventually I found a passion teaching leadership skills in a classroom setting.

Through all of this, I followed my obsession for culinary creations - sometimes carrying it a bit too far. During the Christmas holidays over many years I would plan a candy-making strategy for gift-giving that my friends loved, but which kept me up far into the night hand-dipping candies -- burning the candle at both ends, as they say.

The passion for candy-making continued and I eventually gave up my day job, rented a commercial kitchen, and founded Eutopian Chocolates. Specializing in flavored homemade marshmallows, hand-dipped in gourmet chocolate, I was excited to finally focus on working in the kitchen full-time. I eventually added a second, very popular product: stemmed, maraschino cherries surrounded by a butter-based cream, hand-dipped in gourmet chocolate. These two products kept me busy until the sale of the company.

My passion for cooking and baking is now satisfied by sharing my recipes and tips through a series of articles on various sites including suite101.com and as the Grand Rapids Food Examiner.
